German (formal) site language results in English “Cookie-Richtlinie”

    I would like to switch the language to German (formal), especially for the ?Cookie-Richtlinie“. The standard is German (informal), as explained here (why this is the case eludes my understanding, but that’s another question).

    However, when switching my site language to “German (formal)” (from “German”), the ?Cookie-Richtlinie“ comes up with English text (except the title, which remains). Any ideas on how to solve this?

    The German translations follow the German glossaries for both formal and informal translations. When we just started developing Complianz we consulted the German translations team about this, because we felt that most (if not all) German users would prefer formal language for their legal documents. However, the guidelines tell us (and the German translators) to stick to the informal glossary for all translations, including the legal documents.

    If you have switched your site language to German (formal), WordPress needs to download the formal German language files. If it hasn’t downloaded those yet, it will fall back on English.

    You can force an update of the language files via WordPress Dashboard -> Update -> (scroll down) translations – Update translations.

    Then clear any caching on your site and the Cookie Policy should appear in formal german.

    Your hint did the trick, or at least setting the language anew has solved the problem.
