Okay, I think I might have figured out what my problem is that I posted in the v2 discussion. I wanted to post this under its own Subject title to catch the eye of other iPhone and Geotag users.

Has anyone been able to get Geotag to work with iPhone photos?

I think Geotag has an issue with reading the exif data. Using an online tool to read exif data located here https://regex.info/exif.cgi iPhone photos are read just fine. They show a lat and lon and display on a google map without issue. Try this url to the image I am testing with.

    https://www.piratevelo.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/Picture.jpg

That same image in Geotag doesn’t seem to work. It won’t map at all. But I have grabbed other image, not my own, that do show up on the Geotag maps just fine.

So, has anyone been able to get Geotag to work with iPhone photos?

If this is an issue what is different about iPhone exif data that is not working specificly in the Geotag plugin? Can it be fixed to support iPhone photos?

Please make sure, that your <img>-tag in your posts displays the original photo and not a WordPress generated thumbnail as WordPress might remove the exif data while resizing the pictures.

Hmm, besides that it seems that the coordinates won’t be read properly…the plugin says that the position ist 98.833333333333, -154.33333333333 which should be wrong. I will check that…However, you should be sure that you display the original file and not a WordPress generated thumbnail…

Hi, I found the problem and tried to solve it. Now it should also work with iPhone pictures. Try to download the Version 2.0 once again and replace the geotag.php with the new one…hope this works ??

I deleted the plugin via wordpress. The reinstalled it with the wordpress plugin install and I get the follow error. I have looked and the function does exits. I will try to delete it again.

Fatal error: Call to undefined method Geotag::updatePlugin() in /home1/husarus/public_html/piratevelo/wp-content/plugins/geotag/geotag.php on line 21

I delete the plugin via FPT. Then I went in an removed all option setting for geotag from the options table. Did a fresh install again via the WordPress add plugin. Still no luck. I still get the undefined method.

Well, no luck here getting the plugin reactivated. If you want an image to test this here is one that I took with iPhone and I have confirmed that it does have geo data in it.

Let me know what I can do to reactivate the plugin. Also let me know if you can get the image above to work with the geotag plugin.

    Thanks!

Okay, I figured out what was causing the error. When I removed the geotag pluging I made sure that the directory was removed as well. But after looking at the plugin directory there is also a directory called, transportlines-geotag. I then deleted this directory and installed the plugin again. It did activate. I will testing with iPhone photos now… more to come.

I have to assume that the plugin just doesn’t work. I can not get any geotagged photo to map from any camera. I have pulled several photos off the web and no luck at all. I looked on your demo webpage and your example of photos mapped don’t work either.

I hope this plugin gets updated in the future. It is a great idea.

You were absolutely right. I found a small bug which caused the images to disappear. This bug didn’t appear in my testing environment, because of a slightly different server configuration. I tried to fix that – now it works on my website again…hope it does so on yours, too (it is still the 2.0 version).

    Thanks for your feedback!

Okay, cheers. I have it working now. I have a few more questions but will post those to another topic.

    Thanks for all your help.
