Geolocation without map

Is there a way to geolocate without the map? I have tried a number of shortcodes (paid version) but can only seem to geolocate if I include the map. In my case the map isn’t required and I’d rather not incur the associated API costs.

Also is there a way to force/report error if location access isn’t provided by the user and show an error instead of listings that may not be nearby (aka base map address or loctions) and irrelevant to a user?
