GeoIP not hiding or showing content in certain EU countries

  • Hey there, used this fine plug in for years.

    Always worked well in the past to show relative links to specific regions.

    However it stopped working toady in some regions. Now it works in the UK, Italy, some (but not all) French IPs, Spain, Portugal etc. but in Germany, Denmark, BNL and Austria it doesn’t display the correct links (they come up blank as if the browser is visiting from a country not specified).

    manually using the ?geot_debug=de etc. code on the end on the URL shows the correct links fine.

    Nothing has changed our end and no cache is switched on.

    Feels almost like the Plug in GEO IP database needs updating?

    Anything else we can try?

    You can update your GEO IP database manually. This base is located in :
    /geotargeting/includes/data

    Here the source:
    https://dev.maxmind.com/geoip/geoip2/geolite2/

    Thanks, manual deletion and upload of the updated database in the respective folder on the server seems to have now done the trick.

    For the uninitiated this Lite version of the plug has no option to update anything really within itself, so future installers be beware.

    From what I can gather from looking into this, it looks like the way the GEO database is called (the API) has now been discontinued and the plug needs updating!

    Having to do this manually every week or so will be a pain… I know its free but the simplicity is perfect for what i use it for.

    WE will add automatic db updates on next version. Free db are released once a month, but updating once every 3 months its enough
