    Hi,

The question is what is best to use to develop an application with GeoDirectory plugin: multisite subsite vs wp subfolder install.
I read about 100% compatibility between multisite and GeoDirectory plugin.

    Scenario analysis:
I have a wp multisite install with 2 subsites for a bilingual site:
    1) domain.com redirects to domain.com/es
    2) domain.com/en
This is a site about a country, his people and culture.
    Disabled registered users and comments.

    What I want to achieve:
I want to add a GD tourist guide of the main city.
    domain.com/cityname

    Cons of multisite:
    Only one database.
If something goes wrong, all the sites will go off line.
    Problem to backup and restore.
The network install might be crowded of plugins that I may not need in GD site.

    Cons of subfolder install:
I have a Cloudways hosting. I recently moved in
Setting a wp install in a subfolder, must be achieved manually, which is no problem. However, is not a standard install and I′m not sure what issues I could find in the future. Anyway, this could be fixed, changing hosting when necessary.

    Final thoughts
I was new to wp when I choose to use MU. My decision was based, in what was the best solution for the kind of translation I had. Now I do not know if it is a good idea to follow adding sites.

I know that GD put a big effort in GD multisite compatibility, so I welcome any advice in this matter.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Irene,

this is really my personal opinion and the result of our experience with MultiSite.

We don’t really use GeoDirectory on it, we sell and provide support for it through those website, but the scenario is very similar, because we use Easy Digital Downloads and bbPress and many many other plugins.

We use multisite for all of our websites :

Main Website to sell the Directory Plugin

Multisite for the Support website: https://wpgeodirectory.com/support/

This way we keep EDD running on the main website and bbPress on the second and each website only loads the plugins it needs.

Also we have another multisite for the docs: https://wpgeodirectory.com/docs/

and another for translations running glotpress : https://wpgeodirectory.com/translate/projects/

https://wpinvoicing.com/, https://userswp.io/ (each with their docs, support and translation sites) and https://wpeasyupdates.com/ are all on the same network too, but we use domain mapping to use a different domain for each.

Yes you have only 1 DB, but if you have daily backups you are fairly safe.

You don’t load all plugins for all websites unless you network activate them all. GeoDirectory doesn’t even work properly if network activated, it must enabled on each site , so plugin load is not a problem.

We have 81 plugins installed in our network, but only 8 are network activated, mainly related to AMP and domain mapping.

For all other websites, only the plugins needed are active and used.

    I hope this helps! ??

    Hi Paolo,
Many thanks, Paolo for the fast and detailed answer!!
I will think about what you tell me, I hope to do the right choice and be using your GD plugin soon.
