Hi have just spotted what looks like a bug.

On the search facility clicking on the Search Word Box makes the text disappear.

However clicking on the Near in the geo search leaves the text. You cannot delete the text and it is not until you actually start to write in the geo box that the text disappears. I presume this is not supposed to happen and clicking in the geo box should remove the text like it does in the search word box.

    Kind Regards

It’s not a bug, but an HTML 5 issue.

The geo field uses Google’s autocompleter, which uses JS to adda placeholder attribute which is HTML 5, but we can’t assume that themes are all html 5 so we haven’t hard-coded it.

    Hi Marcus,
thanks for the quick response. Is there any fix to this then for those themes that aren’t all html5.

What I can do is add the same placeholder functionality to the search textbox so that it’ll behave the same way as the Geo field.

This method still works with non-HTML5 pages.

    Hi Marcus,
apologies it is the other way round. I was wanting the geo field text to disappear like it does with the search textbox as I don’t think it’s that user intuitive the other way round.

I presume any change either way will be in the next version.

unfortunately it can’t be that way due to the autocompleter from google. placeholders are the ‘right’ way of doing it anyway so we’d be heading in that direction.

    Hi Marcus,
    thanks for the update.

Shall leave things as they are until the next update and mark this as resolved.
