• Hello!

We have the Store Locator plugin installed and can’t seem to get the “Geo-location” to work as we thought it might. We apologize if we are incorrect, but we thought the Geo Locator could pick up a visitors location upon visit – so prior to actually doing a search. We have not been able to get this to take place on any computer in any location. We have tried several variations of the settings and still don’t get that taking place. It does locate once a specific address is entered, but not until then.

    Our settings are as such…

    1. Google Maps API Map Region: United States

    2. Attempt to auto-locate the user: checked

    3. Load locations on page load: checked

    4. Start point: defined as the business’s hometown

    5. We do have a Google API key in place.

We’ve tried on multiple devices(desktop and mobile) in different cities and no one testing gets their location located until an address is entered and a search is completed. Again, we apologize if we are misunderstanding, but is the plugin intended to auto-locate a specific start point prior to initiating a search and we are just missing a setting?

    Thank you!

What’s the URL where this happens, then I can test it.

As soon as the page loads a pop-up should ask for permission to determine your location. But if you don’t approve it within x seconds the map will load the locations based on the set start location on the settings page.

Hello, i have the same problem. I would send you the link but because of the client i would send it via email , if that is ok.

    Thank you very much.

@aleksandarjovicic you can send the url to tijmen at wpstorelocator.co. Let me know here when you did it, because of my spam filter sometimes eating emails that it shouldn’t ??

@tijmensmit just did ?? thank you!

    hi Tijmen,
    I have a similar problem. https://www.hogerzeil.com
the map loads correctly, but then we get a “hoops … something is wrong.
I taken the “hidden” out as you advised in your other threat 2 years ago. but it did not do anything.
Also the start point is ok after a refresh, but then blocks any entry so we can not put a city.

hope you can help – thanks Timm

@jochenc on what exactly? The geolocation not working correctly, not showing up at all, or something else?

How the geolocation works is that the store locator asks your browser for your location by using the Geolocation API to try and determine your location.

The determined location is accurate most of the time, but sometimes it’s not that great, but there is unfortunately nothing I can do about that since the store locator is depended on data returned by your browser.

    Hi,

Sorry i should have been more specific.

For me it works on my desktop but not on mobile. I did give permission to chrome to share my location details but it shows the default location.

In firefox it does show the current location but also the default location. I will do some more testing on different devices and get back to you!
