Genesis Responsive Slider – pull photo from each category vs. all recent posts

I like this Slider a lot and it works great except one thing:
I want the Genesis Slider to pull the most current post from each of my categories. Instead, it’s pulling all my recent posts. That means that some categories have 2 photos and some of my categories don’t show up at all. The slider is on my homepage.
I can’t find any documentation on how to set up the Slider. I have searched forums, my child theme support etc.
For example, if the way to do it is by Post ID — how do I set that? Where is the Post ID on the post?
In lieu of any How To documentation – on the StudioPress site there’s no discussion that I could find describing like basic FAQ on set up what I need to do is:
The Slider should show current post from each menu category, 6 in total. (rather than just pulling ALL my recent posts.)
I see the “include, exclude” button but have no idea how to do that. On Slider Settings, I set the drop down box to “All Categories” it pulls 2 posts from 1 category vs. 1 post (the most recent) from each category.Thanks,
