After upgrading Genesis theme from 2.7.3 to 2.8.0, the Elementor editor no longer works at all. When I load a page for editing, one that previously was edited in Elementor with no problem, instead of displaying the page contents in the right panel, a list of pages is displayed. The vertical scroll no longer works. It is impossible to drag any widgets into the page. For example, if I drag and drop and Inner section onto the page, nothing happens. Furthermore, changing page templates from the default template to most others does not make any difference. However, changing to the Elementor canvas allows normal editing.

It seems to me that something changed in the new version of Genesis that is incompatible with Elementor. If you are not familiar with the Genesis themes, note that one most ALWAYS use a child theme with Genesis. In my case, the child theme is Infinity Pro.

Thanks for looking at how this incompatibility might be resolved.

  • Have you checked with the Genesis development team? They may know which change they made that might cause this to happen.

Yes, indeed. I was hoping to avoid a situation where all parties concerned end up pointing the finger at someone else.
What I have learned in the interim is that if the home page in a Genesis theme is not configured, then the situation I describe above for Elementor, where the editor simply does not work any more, occurs. I don’t think that should happen.

Well, I wasn’t trying to point fingers. But you said Genesis updated, which means something in Genesis changed, so I would think that would be the first place to focus on. And with what you are now describing, it still sounds like a Genesis thing. I don’t know what the process of “configuring” the Genesis home page entails, so no idea how that affects Elementor. But since that’s where the issue begins, it seems to me that the focus begins there. Hopefully, one or the other of the development teams can work it out.

I have the same problem with “Wellness childtheme”. I can not load the Elementor Editor at all. Always gives me “safe mode”. Even rollback in Elementor to v2.3.8 and Pro v2.3.1 does not help.
But it works when I use Genesis v2.7.3 instead of v2.8.0 –> even with latest Elementor version installed.

So I will reach out to Genesis support…
