Thanks for the plugin. Especially for the simple installation.

The results were completely unexpected. Once I change the status of a post to Archived, any member of the public gets a 404 error. I was already achieving that with the Private status.

What I had expected is that the Archived post could still be accessed by the public but only directly using the post’s URL. I don’t want it to appear on any lists of posts and I don’t want it to be presented on the “Prev Post” and “Next Post” links but generating a 404 error is just as bad as Private as I will lose all traffic from any website that has previously linked to the Archived post by URL and I will get errors from Google Webmaster. I’ve read through the FAQ but I did not see that such an option was available. Otherwise I’m not sure there is any benefit in the plugin as I could already achieve exactly the same thing with the Private status.

    Thanks for your feedback, dccharron.

The archived post status is very similar to the private status. Unfortunately, WordPress core does not fully support custom post status querying in the way we all hope it would.

That being said, I am currently looking into ways to still achieve the exact result you are mentioning here, as I believe myself and many others are looking for the same thing.

I don’t have an ETA, but it’s certainly on the radar.
