• Hi, I’m new on this plugin. Installed today. In set-up page, I have “Simple Calendar (Google Calendar Events) — 1 week — default format. Hitting the “Generate” button I get a modal box that just says “Error”. And an “OK” button. Can’t tell what I’m doing wrong.

    Thanks — Howard Ballinger

    Hi @howardballinger!

This is usually generated by a conflict with another plugin or possibly your theme. You can see which by doing the following steps:

    1. Ensure you have a backup of your site in case there are any issues when disabling/enabling plugins or your theme
    2. Disable all plugins (except your calendar plugin and this plugin), and switch to a default theme like Twenty Sixteen then verify the issue is resolved
    3. Re-enable your plugins and switch back to your previous theme one by one verifying if the issue is still occurring, and note which one causes it to break

Let me know which plugin/theme causes the issue and I may be able to come up with a fix, but you’ll also need to contact the theme or plugin author and have them fix the issue.

    Cheers!

Darn, I composed a whole reply and it’s gone! Probably something timed out, I was writing while I worked. But now it’s late & this might be brief. But yes, I installed the 2016 theme (I know that worked as the site looks entirely different now) and disabled all plugins besides Event Calendar Newsletter and Simple Calendar. Then cleared recent history, and there was no ‘error’ box but the ‘Result’ and ‘Result HTML’ box stayed blank. No content. So I re-activated Simple Calendar – Google Calendar Pro Add-on, and the Error box came back.

I really want this to work, what can I do? — HB

To update — with the 2016 theme and no plugins besides Event Calendar Newsletter and Simple Calendar, I was able to run Event Calendar Newsletter and no error message; but the ‘Result’ and ‘Result HTML’ box stayed blank. No content. So I re-activated Simple Calendar – Google Calendar Pro Add-on, and the Error box came back.

Today I restored the site (yay for Updraft) and cleared my cache; ran your plugin and there was no error message but the spinner just kept spinning. Over an hour.

Does this mean there’s some incompatibility between Simple Calendar – Google Calendar Pro Add-on and Event Calendar Newsletter?

What’s the next step? Can you contact the developer of Simple Calendar – Google Calendar Pro Add-on– or should I — HB

    Hi @howardballinger ,

Sorry to hear you’re still having trouble!

I’ve just tested again with the latest version of Event Calendar Newsletter and Simple Calendar and am able to fetch events successfully. What may be happening is you don’t have a valid Google API key set – without it Simple Calendar cannot fetch any events from your calendar and you’ll just get no events returned.

Their instructions are here, but can be a bit tricky and you might need to reach out to their support if any issues:

    https://docs.simplecalendar.io/google-api-key/

Also make sure you select a time far enough in the future (at the top of Event Calendar Newsletter) so you’ll have events returned.

The constant spinner may be a different conflict with the scripting if you’ve re-enabled other plugins. You can follow the steps again to disable all other plugins and switch to a default theme then re-enable to see which one is causing that issue.

    Hope that helps!
