• I selected Theme Twenty Ten several years ago and have been very happy with the results. I am getting concerned that I should have done the updates to follow the path to Twenty Sixteen. Is this something I should be concerned about or can I just go on using Twenty Ten? My Blog is at https://www.connectiblesblog.com. Thanks for any advice…. Bill

  • Twenty Sixteen is a mobile friendly theme, as are all WordPress default themes from Twenty Twelve on. Google says that it may give a ranking boost to websites that are mobile friendly and that alone is a good enough reason to change to Twenty Sixteen, or to another mobile ready theme.

I am sure you would be pleased with Twenty Sixteen although I feel it needs a bit of css customisation to get looking right.

Hi thanks for the response. Can I just update to Twenty Sixteen from Ten or do I have to update them in sequence, one by one.

You can go straight to Twenty Sixteen but with most theme changes things are not likely to look quite right as every theme has a different “out of the box” look. You can download a new theme and then preview your site in the customiser, before make the theme live.

I do a little preliminary testing by creating a sub-domain, downloading the theme I want, copying a few pages (including menus and sidebars with their widgets) from the original site and seeing how it looks.

Ensure you use a child theme for any CSS customisation or any changes you make will be lost when a theme author releases a new version of the theme you are using.
