general question on image sizes and server load

    Probably website 101 but:
    If I upload a 300K(whatever larger size) file to my server but I insert a thumbnail view of that file on the page does that still require the page to load 300k worth of data? Or does the page only load the full image when it’s clicked and opened to the larger size?

    I’m just wondering if its good practice to do this in terms of my photo galleries. Can I upload a larger photo but embed the thumbnail on the page and still keep my site running quickly?

    If it is a properly generated thumbnail (as opposed to be resized by CSS or markup) no.

    Yes – that’s why WordPress creates the different sized images for each image upload.
