• I have my small team of three use UpdraftPlus (free version) for a few years. We always run a backup using the plugin before running updates on my client sites. My question is this… if a plugin update fails and we use the restore feature to roll back the plugins should we be choosing the option to restore the database too?

I ask this because currently we restore everything from the backup but I have realized that most of the time we really do not need to be doing that and can just be restoring themes or plugins that failed to update correctly for some reason.

    Hi,

Yes, plugin updates just affects the files so you can just restore the plugins component to restore back the previous files.

Thank you @bcrodua for your reply. One other general question is there an easier way to delete the -old directories created by UpdraftPlus without accessing the server.

    Hi,

Yes, you will see the “Delete old Directories” button after restore within your WordPress dashboard. Just click that and all old files will be removed.

    Thanks,
