• HI,
I’m trying to create a few wordpress sites and am fustrated by the complexity, lack of intuitive interface, and lack of any sort of phone support. (best thing about Godaddy is they have 24 hour support that will walk me through any problem.)

I have loaded a template “colorway” onto my site from the admin dashboard, but even the simplest customizing eludes me. For instance, I access the “theme options” menu and have tried to upload a “custom logo.” It specifies a “Optimal size” of 215px by 55px. Either the graphic comes out contorted, or jagged, or too small to even read.

If every step of designing a website is going to be this complex and counterintuitive, it’s going to take me a year to get the site made. Can any one offer a step-by-step guide to assembling a site?
    Thanks!

  • For true design flexibility, you need a reasonable working knowledge of HTML, PHP & CSS. https://www.w3schools.com/ is an excellent resource for learning these. Any WordPress user also needs a willingness to use the WordPress Codex/documentation as an ongoing resource.

Failing that, try another theme – such as Suffusion.

Thanks. I don’t have time to become a wordpress expert. I use it on my blog and that works great. Log into admin, click Add New, and past in the text. But for my new sites I need the ability to size text and graphics. I suppose it’s back to iweb for me as that seems to be the only newbie-friendly page creation tool.

Then I would urge you to learn how to use CSS. Here’s a couple of good places to start:

Thanks again. I found a set of video tutorials on Youtube that are a big help. I’m already on chapter five: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5XlQIyUPKdU&feature=related

I think the best lesson so far is to give up on making a template look like some pre-concieved design and instead to work with the template’s capabilities.
