I recently integrated the MC4wp plugin into my wordpress site and have the settings for GDPR turned off in the plugin but it was turned on in Mailchimp. It seems that when the initial sync took place it forced a message of opt out of email and direct mail into the activity feeds of each customer. Per the guidance from Mailchimp, I turned off the GDPR compliance requirement and tried to resync but the data fields are not updating. The debug logs says the sync is not able run due to an Error in Compliance state. I assume this is the GDPR compliance.

[2020-03-10 06:34:35] ERROR: User Sync > Error subscribing or updating user 4922: Bad Request. Member In Compliance State. jere**@th**********.com is in a compliance state due to unsubscribe, bounce, or compliance review and cannot be subscribed.

Per my conversation with Mailchimp, there is no way to remove these activities from the customer profile.

They’ve instructed me to ask you to help resolve:
“they would be able to resolve the compliance issue and retroactively update or sync your data through their backend.”

Is this something you can help with or do you have other thoughts on how to resolve?

    Thank you!

    Hey @brucherk,

The GDPR settings in MailChimp are not the same as the once provided in our plugin. The GDPR field in MailChimp has just been made available via API (which our plugin uses to communicate with MailChimp).

If the user our plugin is trying to sync had subscribed or you had deleted them, then it’s not possible to update their details via API.

Hey Harish…Thanks for the reply. Sorry don’t understand what your saying here. I get that your GPDR settings work different then Mailchimp. I have users that have subscribed to mailchimp and are still good emails/subscribed but the sync doesn’t work. The example I gave you above is a current subscribed user of mailchimp…but I get this compliance state issue I’m told by mailchimp…because of the GDPR issue.

So to be clear your saying your GDPR has no communication with Mailchimp and would not cause any problem for user data to sync as long as customer is current and active in Mailchimp.
    Thanks!

    Hi,

We have no control over “the compliance issue”, this is something only MailChimp can control as they are the one blocking this email from being subscribed after it’s unsubscribed. I’m surprised that they told you to ask us about that.

Once a user is unsubscribed, bounced or otherwise blacklisted MailChimp doesn’t offer us any way to re-subscribe that email over the API. I do believe it may be possible to re-susbcribe the user by manually adding it to your list or by using an embedded form.

Just for your information: I notice you may be using the old version of UserSync, as the new version of usersync doesn’t support subscribing and unsubscribing any longer. We do not provide support for the old UserSync plugin at this time.

Hope that helps. If you have any questions, please let me know!
