Hi, I’m getting my website ready for GDPR (the new EU privacy law), and your plugin—Shortlinks by Pretty Links—is one that I use on my website. In order for me to accurately write my privacy policy, would you please answer the following?

    1. Does your plugin collect personally identifiable information (that includes IP addresses)?

    2. If so, what types of personally identifiable information does your plugin collect?

    3. For what purpose(s) does your plugin collect personally identifiable information?

    4. Does your plugin have a privacy policy that explains how you use my website visitors’ personally identifiable information?

    5. Do your plugin use cookies or collect various types of data-usage information?

    Thanks!

We are planning to add the option to anonymize IP’s soon. But in the meantime, here are the answers to your questions:

    1. Does your plugin collect personally identifiable information (that includes IP addresses)?

It does log IP addresses unless the Tracking Style is set to “Simple Click Count” method. If Simple Click Count method is used, then no personally identifiable information is collected at all.

    2. If so, what types of personally identifiable information does your plugin collect?

    IP Address.

    3. For what purpose(s) does your plugin collect personally identifiable information?

For displaying stats in your “Clicks” view.

    4. Does your plugin have a privacy policy that explains how you use my website visitors’ personally identifiable information?

All data is stored locally in your own WordPress database. We do not process or store any of your customer’s information on our servers.

    5. Do your plugin use cookies or collect various types of data-usage information?

A cookie is logged each time a user clicks on a link. This is used to track conversion reporting and unique clicks. No personally identifiable information is stored in the cookies.

@cartpauj Does this mean that is we disable tracking, the Pretty Links plugin doesn’t collect any user info and doesn’t set any cookies?

What about when using “Simple Click Count”. Are there any cookies set in this case?

    Thanks,
    Laura

The cookies are always set, but again – they hold no personal information, nor are they combined with other information to create a profile of the user or their activity.

If I use Shortlinks by Pretty Links to create links on my website that point to third-party ads that pay me a commission when my website visitors click on those links and make a purchase, will the advertiser know that I deserve credit for the sale if I have Shortlinks by Pretty Links set to “Simple Click Count”? In other words, does “Simple Click Count” obscure the information that the advertiser would need in order to know who to credit for the sale?
    Thanks!

Setting Simple Click count only prevents Pretty Links from tracking hits. Nothing will change related to how the user is redirected to the target site.

I noticed the Ip tracking in the clicks. I cannot delete the IP Adresses by meself so I am not GDPR compliant. You were planning to add the option to anonymize IP’s soon. When will this be available? Thank you very much!

    All the best,
    Ria

    Hi,

I am using the free version. If I uncheck the tracking option will short links stop collecting any visitor data?

Also is there a way for me to remove previously collected click data?

    thanks

Change your tracking method to Simple Click Count Tracking (less stats / faster performance) mode and no IP addresses are tracked.
