GDPR Policy Page

REMEMBER: In order to make the privacy policy page accessible you need to add it in General -> Exclude.

So, if the URL of the privacy page is https://domain.com/privacy-policy/, you have to add privacy-policy to the Exclude setting.

Hi George,

It’s already setup like this, the issue is along with the privacy policy page the rest of the templates blocks, sidebars, menus etc are showing up.

Prior to installing WP Maintenance Mode I did remove the default WordPress install templates if that could cause this, there is however an active theme installed and running.

I am a little confused because I don’t understand what templates you are talking about. Could you please post a link to the privacy policy page?

Later edit: When you exclude a page from maintenance mode, the entire page is displayed. You can’t display just a part of the page and hide the rest.

If you want to show only the text, a quick solution is to create a text file (example: privacy-policy.txt), add the privacy policy text in there, upload it to the FTP and use it as a privacy page.

Yes, I don’t want to display the rest of the sites template as it’s supposed to be in maintenance mode.

That’s what the next plan was, just wanted to double check that this was normal function of the plugin first. I could drop the markup into a .html file too? Where would WP Maintenance Mode look for it?

@1cloud You can upload the privacy policy file wherever you want.

For example, if you upload it to /wp-content/privacy-policy.html, you’ll have to add https://your-domain.com/wp-content/privacy-policy.html to the GDPR > P. Policy page link input.

Ok thanks @georgejipa, that looks to have sorted it. This looks to be a bit of a bug, surely the privacy policy page shouldn’t be displaying the full template?

@1cloud What full template are you talking about?

Your privacy policy page is now a simple HTML file. If you add the URL of that file to plugin settings, the plugin will just display a link to the file on the maintenance mode page. Nothing more.

The default privacy policy page which your plugin suggests using isn’t an html file, it suggested using a PHP slug which directs to the WordPress privacy page, which displays the whole template.

You might want to read your 2nd post again.

Oh… you’re still at the Exclude option part.

In order to display the WordPress privacy policy page to the visitors, you have to exclude it from the maintenance mode.

And, as I already said, if you exclude a page (in this case, the WordPress privacy policy page) from maintenance mode, WordPress will display the entire page (or full template, like you said). Why? Because the plugin is not active anymore on that page.

That’s how we developed it. It may not be the best approach for everyone, but it’s not a bug.

ahh ok. Perhaps a feature suggestion. When WP Maintenance Mode is active, don’t display the whole template when using the GDPR Policy page settings and the default policy page, it would make configuration of the plugin much easier.

My Coming soon page is showing the Privacy Policy link twice but does not go to Privacy Policy page. I can see the link as mydomain/#. I have privacy-policy excluded. Am I supposed to fill in the P. Policy page link or just click on use this URL? Also am I supposed to edit the Contact form tail and Subscribe form tail where I see href=”#”? I am not a coder.

You have to manually type the URL of the privacy page in all those fields (P. Policy page link, Contact form ‘tail’, Subscribe form ‘tail’).
