I’ve had the plug-in installed for a while, and overall it’s very good, but I possibly have a slight issue due to being based in Europe, and therefore need all sign ups to be GDPR compliant.

I’m not sure if/how this is possible via the “sign up on account creation” option.

This is a great feature, and I get a lot of sign ups via this method, but they come through to my list as Opted-out of “Email”

They are ticking a box saying they want to opt into email, so this clearly seems wrong. In the end, they still go on the list and receive emails, but I’m concerned that at some point it could get called out for failing to comply with GDPR.

Is there any chance it could be made compatible at some point?

    Thanks,

    Simon

@siwhyatt Can you do us a favor and expand just a little bit on the issue? I’m a little bit confused.

If they’re ticking a box that says they opt in, that means they should be subscribed. Depending on your store settings though – you might be using the Double Opt In approach which means they’re not actually subscribed until they click the secondary message you’ve sent as the confirmation. Do you by chance use the Double opt In?

But you’re saying they’re “opted out of email” too so what are we really trying to troubleshoot? Does this person who has the “opted out” status in Mailchimp have a different status in your woo store? At the user level, they should have a meta of mailchimp_woocommerce_is_subscribed that you can verify a true or false value ( 0 meaning false, 1 meaning true ).

Is there any way you can help us understand the situation a little further? Be more than happy to help.

I have the same issue as Siwhyatt. And yes when the person ticks the box Mailchimp does see them as subscribed not merely eligible for transactional emails. However, the separate GDPR field “Opted-In” within a user record remains unchecked / false. And this would seem to be the reason the system will therefore not send out the automated emails we have programmed to go out to subscribers purhcasing certain products with a follow up series based on a timer. We really want a solution for this or figure out a solution in-house without our limited programming skills. We wonder if it could be achieved by adding custom fields to checkout. Or hidden fields, that have the Opted-In field marked true so it overwrites it mailchimp side in the sync. And while you at it, you could leverage such functionality to allow passing of information to place subscribers in groups without them having to have any more boxes to tick – another issue we would need to manage manually at the moment, which is addressed this way by other signup plugins. The plugin does 95% of what we need and it is great. This would seem to be a critical feature for compliance in the EU for your plugin. Can you advise of a timescale on a fix, advise on how we might fix using my suggested approach, or confirm if we should now hire a developer. My client has a product to launch that relies on automation and it we are now passed the launch date.

thanks for the insight @almatacademy – we’re talking about this internally to see how to address this issue. We’ll send an update here as soon as we have an idea for a timeline or a possible workaround.

Hi @almatacademy, @siwhyatt, when you get a chance please download the v2.4.6 of the plugin. In this version, we’ve pulled in the GDPR options in your Mailchimp account if they are enabled. For example, here’s a screenshot: https://a.cl.ly/12ureEyb. Does this solution work for you all?

Let us know if there’s anything else we need to look further into.
