Do you have any information regarding how Akismet will comply with Europe’s upcoming GDPR regulations? Unless it already does?

    Happiness Rocketeer ??

Thanks for reaching out! We’re working on getting into full compliance with GDPR by the time it goes into effect this year.

The only information sent to Akismet when a comment is tested for spam is information that the commenter provided: their name, email address, site URL, and comment (plus other non-personal information like the current time, etc.). This information is not transferred to any non-Akismet servers, but we cannot guarantee in which country it will be processed. To that end, we have signed model contract clauses with our Irish subsidiary that cover the transfer of data in and out of the EU for processing.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

(Marking as resolved as it’s not a support question.)

@csonnek, is there any official announcement about these model contract clauses that we can link to in our privacy policy? It’s required by GDPR… Or a Terms page where you mention Akismet is GDPR compliant? Anything similar?

    Thanks!

@eszdan Akismet will be publishing its GDPR compliance data very soon.

In the meantime, you can read Automattic’s preemptive documentation on it here:

    I hope that helps!

    Hi Tracy,

Thanks for the reply. I’ve checked that documentation but it’s mostly general and is about wordpress.com.

Looking forward to see what Automattic publishes soon. ??

We’re working hard on all of this and we will have it all ready before the deadline. You have my word ??

Is there any update on Aksimet and GDPR compliance? Three days away!

The Automattic policy site is just general rambling with no constructive information. Tomorrow is the deadline.
I will remove this plugin on all our sites until you clear things up.

    @tmmbecker Any updates?

@developmen – Please see our post on our blog about GDPR and let us know if you have questions.

The “Learn how your comment data is processed” link will direct you to this page on Automattic.com that will outline how your data is processed.

    Hope that helps!
