Great news. We’re pretty darn sure your Google calendar displays will work once again.

Nick and I have been working on the switch to the new Google Calendar API (version 3), and after a bunch of tweaks and testing we believe it’s now good to go.

Please update your GCal Events plugin to 2.1.0 (or higher) and let us know in the forums if it’s still not working.

Google basically requires an API key for all requests now. By default the WordPress plugin now uses a shared public API key we generated.

Our request limit shared among all users is currently 500,000 requests per day and 5 requests per second. We applied for more today, but we’ll have to wait to hear back from Google if we’re allowed na increase.

At 330,000+ plugin downloads we’re not sure if this is sufficient or not yet for everyone. But we do know that the caching provided in our plugin helps reduce the number of requests.

If you’re concerned about this quota set for all plugin users, you do have the option of generating and using your own GCal API key across your sites. More info and instructions are found on the General Settings page after you update.

Sorry again for the downtime the last couple days. We’ll do our best to tackle these issues a little more in advance in the future.

  • Hi,

I’ve got a little problem with formatting the events. The following source code supplies some errors:

    [if-all-day]
    [start-date] [if-location]in [location][/if-location]: [link newwindow=”true”][event-title][/link]
    [/if-all-day]

    [if-not-all-day]
    [start-date], [start-time] Uhr[if-location] in [location][/if-location]: [link newwindow=”true”][event-title][/link]
    [/if-not-all-day]

If there is an all-day event without a location, the colon (“:”) is missing.
If there is not an all-day event without a location, the “r” of “Uhr” and the colon is missing. Why?

You can have a look at what is meant here: https://usv-potsdam-volleyball.de/gce_feed/3632/

Is it possible to fix these bugs?

It is working perfectly for me, with the exception of private calendars. Has anyone had success with a private calendar?

None here. The last post about it from Phil Derksen Posted 22 hours ago, said it wasn’t yet working. I haven’t seen anything stating otherwise yet.

    Hello!
When I use it, the list works but nothing shows up in the grid format except for an empty calendar. Any idea what I missed?
    Thank you for your time!

Great plugin, and great response to the breakage this week. I quite new to the plugin (and to some extent to wordpress), but things worked quite easily.

I have two small problems with the very last update 2.1.1:

    – When I setup a google API key, things stop working (but it works fine with the default common key). Cache cleared and everything.
    – Even though the date shift (I have a french version so I do not know the english equivalent) to 0 days, It displays today a yesterday event… A small bug or a timezone one ?

You can see the result on https://www.combio06.fr (in french) see the event list at the bottom of the welcome page there is an event dated from yesterday.

    Hello, FGD Member

That, please see underneath, works well :

OK. I found the solution to the old calendars showing up for us. Unfortunately, it will be a long and painful road to get everything restored. Here is the process:

    1.) Export your Google Calendars.
2.) Unshare and rename for current Google Calendars. We added (discontinued GAPIv2) to the end of ours. So that we can know the difference.
3.) Create a new Google Calendar. Share it with the Public.
4.) Import your ICS file that you exported in step 1.
5.) Create a new GCAL feed in your WordPress website.

    I hope this helps others.

    Thanks you !!

    Didier

Also, the “next” and “back” navigation is not displaying for list and grouped list views.

Any news or information on the timezone issue? Was working fine and since the change it defaults to UTC. Appreciate your hard work on these issues.

Hey CraigCallen, I see there is a NEW update (2.1.1) from 11 hours ago. I installed and YES! the timezone is accurate. AND all day events are showing.

    Great job, Phil!

Yep, please make sure you’re on the 2.1.1 update. Fixed the all-day/multi-day events issue and apparently a few other things as well. Thank you, Phil!

While All Day events are showing now with update 2.1.1, I have a multiday-all day event that only shows on the first day and shows as 12:00 am to 12:00 am.

The single day All Day event shows without a time showing which is how it should be.

Again, thanks for your dedicated efforts to making this work. I can’t say enough about how awesome you are!

I updated to GCE 2.1.1, and I created a new calendar (as recommended by FGD Member, cited in comment 52 above). When I try to display the feed, I get this message the first time (when there is no cache, I guess):

Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /home/content/<em>...[site-specific-info removed]...</em>/wp-content/plugins/google-calendar-events/includes/class-gce-feed.php on line 158

And in subsequent redisplays, I get “No events to display.

Just to be clear… In that error message, I replaced site-specific directory info with “…[site-specific-info removed]…” but it did not come out the way I expected!

Hello – I have updated to 2.1.1 and have tried both the public api and one I created for the my site. My calendars are public and the ID’s are set per instructions (they look like this: pg1p96cd02gn5c3abf9gkqbbhk@group.calendar.google.com).

But no matter what I do, I get the following error in my widget list view:
“Problem with the SSL CA cert (path? access rights?) Please ensure your feed URL is correct. No events to display.”

Does anyone have any suggestions for me?

    Thanks, Laura

I found a stray character in the Calendar ID that got inserted when I copied and pasted! Removed the character and now side widgets work!
