Gateway theme

I am trying to build a web site using gateway theme but when I try to change the existing narrative and graphics I get nowhere. Unfortunately I cannot send you a screen shotbut can anyone tell me how I get a picture and some narrative of my own on this page which I have designated as a static front page please?
