• Donncha…

We’re a LONG time user of WP Super Cache and recently came across a problem that was quite unique.

The short of it all: after upgrading our server LAMP configuration (Linux, Apache 5.4, MySQL 5.5, PHP 5.4), a problem that existed before did not go away. This was true with WP 3.9.2 and 4.0

Several of our audience were getting nothing but garbled screens on mostly mobile equipment (Win8.1, iPad, iPhone, Android) as well as laptops (Win 7SP1). The would get the garbled screen when using a link with a UTM programmed into the link or would get the garbled screen when using a link from our newsletter (which has a different tracking mechanism). HOWEVER, if the keyed the URL in directly, there was NO problem… We were scratching our heads to the point it hurt…

We thought we had an infection, malware, or simply messed up our instance with AWS EC2, so we rebuilt everything with the new LAMP configuration. Once launched, unfortunately the problem was still present.

On a hunch, instead of deactivating all the plugins as we had before, we REMOVED one plugin at a time, reinstalling if the garbled screen remained. When we removed WP Super Cache, the garbled screens disappeared totally and have been gone since.

    So our questions —
    Is this really that unique?
Any clue what was causing this?
What settings can we test to see if we can continue using WP Super Cache?

We have recently setup a test environment to isolate our production environment from hostile takeovers ?? — make a long list if you want, we’re trying to determine what the heck happened…
