gallery post images displaying as squares

I have just updated to spun 2.02 from 1.something and the images in my gallery posts are displaying as rectangles, below the post content. I’ve looked online for similar threads, but none of the cited solutions seem to work for me. I’ve tried:

– ensuring my thumbnails are a square dimension and regenerating them using a plugin
– deactivating all plugins
– uploading new images to a new post of gallery type
