Gallery page with thumbnails, when clicked brings you to complete gallery

I would like to set up a gallery page on my site like this one here:

From the primary menu, when users click on the “gallery” item, I would like it to lead to a page with thumbnails and titles of all my separate galleries. Then when a user clicks on the thumbnail or title, it’ll take them to a separate page with all the images in that particular gallery. How do I go about setting this up?

I’ve currently come up with two options. One, create a new category for posts labeled “Gallery,” then create posts with galleries (one gallery per post) and check the “Gallery” category before posting. Then go to appearance —> menus and create a menu item from the “Gallery” category. When users click on the “Gallery” item from my primary menu it’ll take them to a page with all the posts with galleries in them. Unfortunately, doing it this way also posts the gallery posts to my blog page too, not something I want. The second option is to create a new “Gallery” parent page and menu item, then for each gallery I want to post create a child page, under the parent gallery page. On the parent gallery page I can display an image/title that are links, and when clicked bring you to the separate child page with all the images for that gallery displayed. This option is ok, but I’m having trouble then displaying the images in a format I want. You really only can display them in a single column, vertical format, making users have to scroll endlessly through all the image/title thumbnails; I’d rather have it be like a grid. Load time is also concerning using this method. How will it affect my load time if I have a ton of pictures/links?

My problem is not setting up a gallery, but rather how to post the gallery and create the proper menu items/links so the galleries will display the way I want them to.
