I am using the free version of NextGen Gallery – version 2.2.3 – and the menu item “Other Options” produces only a blank page. Is this menu only activated in the Pro version? I cannot find any reference to this in any of the on-line documentation. I only wanted to be able to access Roles and Capabilities so that an Editor level user can use the Gallery feature. At the moment only an Administrator level user can use the Gallery when editing a page.

@tony-morton – Please try our external Reset Tool plugin here: https://bitbucket.org/photocrati/nextgen-gallery-reset/get/default.zip

To install and activate, go to Plugins > Add New … Upload Plugin
To use, go to Tools > NextGEN Gallery Reset

We do not offer specific support for the Reset Tool plugin as is but it can help in many circumstances, please let us know if it does.

    Thanks!

Many thanks for the Reset plugin, unfortunately the only change it makes is that on the first time of trying the Other Options page, instead of a blank page for the Options Menu, I saw a message saying that “You do not have sufficient permissions to view this page”. On subsequent attempts to view the Other Options page I just get a blank page. I am logged in as Administrator of my own website, so I do not understand what permissions I could be missing.

@tony-morton – You may need to use the plugin a few times (this is rare but can be required) or there may be something creating a conflict on your site.

This may also have something to do with a “role manager” plugin being used on your site and the NextGEN Gallery Roles and Capabilities options being compromised by its usage (NextGEN Gallery can only use the default WordPress roles and will have unexpected results if those are modified and/or not used).

Have you tried deactivating all of your plugins, clearing your browser cache (and site caches if you are using a caching plugin), then reactivating the NextGEN plugin?

If this fixes the problem then it was likely one of the deactivated plugins that was causing an issue. Now, retrace your steps activating each plugin and re-checking to see if the problem returns. If it does then that last activated plugin was probably the one. Keep reactivating and in most cases it is also best to keep checking after each plugin, sometimes there may be more than one plugin on a site that will create an issue. If you do find one (or more) plugins causing this problem we would greatly appreciate your feedback on them so the developers may address them as soon as they can.

Also to note, in rare cases it may be the theme itself that is causing a conflict so while you have just the NextGEN plugin activated you might consider temporarily switching to one of the default WordPress Twenty series themes and see if this corrects the issue as well.

If the problem still persists after all of this we would still want to know, even more so, as we will still want to sort out the issue and may need additional details.

    Thanks!

    Hi Cais,
thanks for the help and sorry for the delay in finding time to sort through things. The conflict is with another plugin called ” ImageMapper” which I use to create a geographical map with links to pages about specific places. That is an integral and important part of the website so I cannot drop that plugin. If it comes to a choice I will have to manage without the Other Options page. The odd thing is that when the menu is showing it confirms that an “Editor” can use the Gallery, but when that menu is not showing (because Image Mapper is active) an Editor cannot in practice use the Gallery, because the Gallery is not in their menu.
    The ImageMapper info is;
    Last Updated: 2 years ago
Requires WordPress Version: 3.3.1 or higher
    Compatible up to: 4.3.11

@tony-morton – I would recommend pushing for the author of “ImageMapper” to review and update their code as needed. Given its age there may be things in a potentially planned refactor that would resolve these issues.

    Thanks!

    – Cais.
