In TT4, when I add a dozen images to the gallery block, I cannot activate more than 2 columns even if I set it to 3 or 4. Going to 1 column works, then 2 columns is okay, but not more than 2.

If I change the site theme to TT3 and live preview it, then the same gallery block works as I would expect and allows for many columns.

Is this a known bug by any chance? Are there any workarounds other than switching to the TT3 theme (requiring complete re-setup of templates again).

    Hi @markc,

I see for now you’re using a columns block to add those images in manually – which is a good workaround. But obviously not the exact solution you were looking for in terms of the gallery block itself.

When I test with Twenty Twenty Four – it does let me have ahigher number of columns than two (I’ve tested with 3-5).

Which makes me wonder if there is something conflicting there. Are you able to try it again with all plugins on the site disabled?

And additionally – if you’re able to take a screenshot (or better, video) of that behaviour in the editor when it happens – it will help me get an idea of what is happening.

Thank you for having a look @jordesign. As it turns out, I set up a fresh site and imported the content (not a backup) and sure enough the gallery started behaving itself! There are no plugins and the only difference I can see is that the faulty staging site had Settings -> Media set to Thumbnail size 384×0, Medium size 768×0 and Large size 0x0 because I would manually scale all images to a max w/h of 1536×2048 before uploading to reduce the number of copies created. Below is the pristine staging site with only imported content…

I’m seeing the same issue in Twenty Twenty Four. I have numerous image galleries on my site (www.sgclark.com/wallpaper/baseball as an example) that use three columns of images. The tabbed content/interface/presentation is generated via the “Ultimate Blocks” plug in and the ‘vertical tabs’ option within that. I’m using the “Shortcode” block within each tab and the shortcode I am using is similar to below. I also use Enhanced Media Library and Media Categories plug-ins.

    [gallery link="file" size="medium" orderby="title" columns="3" media_category="2593"]

When I use my current theme (GeneratePress) it works just fine. When I try to switch themes to Twenty Twenty Four or many other themes, the galleries either present the thumbnail images in only one column or they present the images at full size vs. thumbnails, also in one column.

I have tried removing plugins and most other suggestions with no change. Maybe something to look at.
