    Hi there @ante1974,

Thanks for reaching out. I’ve checked your site manually and also using the tagassistant.google.com service – which is the successor to the Chrome extension you are using. From doing so I can see valid Google Analytics snippets placed on your site, and the visits recording as expected. There is one Universal Analytics snippet and two different Google Analytics 4 snippets (GA4).

With regards dual GA4 snippets recording it looks like you may have one placed via Site Kit, and another via Google Tag Manager. The property ID’s for both differ.

In order to resolve this can you let me know which snippet/Google Analytic 4 property you wish to use? I can then assist you with removing one, ether via from Google Tag Manager or by removing the Site Kit placed GA4 snippet.

Let me know if you have any questions with the above.

    Hi @jamesosborne

    Thanks for your reply.

I think i might have made an error in my analytics set up.

My Universal snippet that is in Site Kit has a GA4 Property associated with it: G-VVJ8GR2TF7

However, Site Kit has picked up an ID G-6F241WK2SG – from a separate GA4 property.

I would have preferred to use the GA4 Property associated with my Universal snippet, unless it is unadvisable to do so.

Currently G-6F241WK2SG is set in GTM.

What should I do to correct this?

Thanks for the update. And I understand, very easy to to. What may have occurred is the Google Analytics 4 (GA4) property was not part of the same Google Analytics account. When setting up Site Kit you must choose, or create, both a Universal and a GA4 property from the same account.

I’ve re-checked your site and you’re correct. It looks the like G-6F241WK2SG property is set within Site Kit, and the G-VVJ8GR2TF7 property elsewhere.

To resolve this, and apply only the correct GA4 property within Site Kit, what you can do is move the GA4 property from one Google Analytics account to the same Google Analytics account set within Site Kit. You can then revist the Analytics settings and choose the correct GA4 property (Site Kit > Settings > Google Analytics > Edit).

Alternatively if the GA4 property you wish to apply within Site Kit is already part of the same Google Analytics account, you can simply revisit your Analytics settings within Site Kit and change the GA4 property (Site Kit > Settings > Google Analytics > Edit).

After applying either of the suggested fixes above you can then remove the GA4 tag from within your Google Tag Manager account, as Site Kit has inserted the correct GA4 snippet for you.

Let me know if you have any questions with the above.

    Hi @jamesosborne

So I just checked, the ID in GTM and Site Kit is the same G-6F241WK2SG.

I looked in Site Kit and compared to my Google Analytics set up, and the property UA-190518949-1 (my universal analytics tracking) has a view and GA4 id set up within it.

There is another property 308961617 which has no view, but has the GA4 id G-VVJ8GR2TF7, many times when I try to view that GA4 ID (Property > Admin > Data Streams > Web) GA seems to show me a blank page. I’ve changed that to Property 263338307 and I’m not sure this has fixed it.

In Site Kit should I uncheck “Place Google Analytics 4 Code”?

I’ve removed what was in GTM as a duplicate.

    Thanks for the update @ante1974.

I do still see more than one GA4 snippet on your site when checking tagassistant.google.com.

The Site Kit placed GA4 property is G-6F241WK2SG. If you don’t wish to use this property then yes, you can uncheck the “Place Google Analytics 4 Code?” option.

Let me know once you’ve done that and I can confirm there is only the non Site Kit placed GA4 property on your site.

    Hi @jamesosborne,

I just can’t figure it out, because I use Site Kit for all my tagging. I did have Monster Insights a while ago, but uninstalled that.

I went into GA and tried to remove the “G-VVJ8GR2TF7” ID, but I get the message:

“This stream is part of a link between a Universal Analytics property and a Google Analytics 4 property and can’t be deleted”

I guess I have to remove the link, or will this break something? Is this actually a bug?

@ante1974 You don’t need to remove anything from analytics.google.com, if you’re looking to use the non Site Kit placed GA4 snippet. You just need to remove the toggle to allow Site Kit to insert your GA4 property, as you suggested earlier.

Once you do this only the other GA4 property will exist on your site – the non Site Kit placed GA4 snippet.

Alternatively if you’re looking to use the Site Kit placed GA4 property you can remove the GA4 property tag inserted via Google Tag Manager.

So in short, you first of all need to decide which snippet to use. Then remove the other one! Let me know once you’ve removed one GA4 property and I’ll check your site once more.

    Hi @jamesosborne,

I did remove the GA4 property tag inserted via GTM – I paused it.

I have also now turned off the toggle for Site Kit to insert the GA4 property, and still the G-VVJ8GR2TF7 property is showing as being used although now there is only one GA4 property.

So it looks like the G-VVJ8GR2TF7 property is being used because of the message I saw “This stream is part of a link between a Universal Analytics property and a Google Analytics 4 property and can’t be deleted”.

I had wanted to use the other property directly related to my universal property so that an config I do affects both, but just can’t seem to get rid of the G-VVJ8GR2TF7 one. I’m quite new to this, but will it make any difference which property I use?

    Thanks.

You now do only have one GA4 snippet, the one not placed via Site Kit. See below a screenshot from the tagassistant.google.com service.

Not a problem, happy to help out here. As you want to remove that GA4 property, and understandably want to use the GA4 property linked with your UA property, you’ll need to remove this non Site Kit placed snippet. In order to do so perform one of the following actions – whichever you prefer:

    1. Disconnect the Google Tag Manager module (Site Kit > Settings > Google Tag Manager > Edit > Disconnect Google Tag Manager). Note that you may have other tags within Google Tag Manager, and not just GA4.
    2. Remove the GA4 tag from your connected Google Tag Manager container. Be sure to publish the latest update if doing so.

After you’ve applied one of the above solutions you can revisit the Site Kit Analytics settings. From there please re-allow Site Kit to insert the GA4 snippet on your site.

Let me know if you have any questions. I’m happy to check your setup afterwards once you confirm you’ve performed one of the above.

    Hi @jamesosborne,

Apologies for coming back on late on this. I tweaked option 2 above and paused the tag in GTM. Hope that should work, in any case I can see that tag isn’t firing from GTM.

I think my current set up is ok because I just checked in GA, and it seems that the GA4 ID G-VVJ8GR2TF7 is linked to my ID UA-190518949-1.

    Thanks.
