Hi, Jetpack is still tracking my visitors/views but my GA4 is not tracking since August 4, 2024 anymore. It has been working well (within an acceptable tolerance) since April 12, 2024. Now it’s not working at all. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance! Let me know if you need any additional details.

Thanks for reaching out @rttomlinso21. If you’d like to share the following, we can hopefully determine any issue that may be resulting with your Google Analytics snippet placement or tracking:

    1. Your Site Health information. You can use this form to share privately if preferred.??
    2. Are you seeing zero traffic or just a major reduction in traffic since August 4th?

Let me know if you have any questions with the above.

Thanks for the update @rttomlinso21. I checked your site and I can see that the Site Kit placed Google Analytics snippet is working as expected, and placed without modification.

I also tracked your site using the tagassistant.google.com service, and I can see that my site visits are recording. Based on this, I don’t see any configuration or reporting issue at present. To confirm that what you’re seeing within the Site Kit dashboard matches that with what you see from analytics.google.com, you may wish to share a screen recording of your experience. You can use a service such as Loom to share a screen recording, while using the same form previously used to share this privately.

Within the screen recording, please click on the ”Source: Analytics” link within the Site Kit dashboard, so we can compare traffic with Analytics directly. I ask as Site Kit pulls information from a users Analytics account and displays it within the plugin dashboard. If you’re finding issues with the amount of, or lack of, site visits, you’ll therefore need to reach out to the product experts at the Google Analytics Help Center.

One additional consideration that may be impacting your Site Kit reporting, in particular compared to your JetPack reports, is that in Site Kit, logged in traffic is not counted for reporting by default. This can be changed at anytime by visiting your Google Analytics settings, so please do check this.

Let me know if you have any questions with the above.

Hi James, thank you. I’ve submitted the video via the form for your review.

Appreciate you sharing the recording, which was very useful to review your experience. From what I can see, Site Kit is reporting the same figures as Google Analytics, indicating this isn’t a Site Kit issue. While I can’t account for more traffic when viewing your Jetpack stats, they may use different metrics to track stats, bot or search engine traffic may be included, the “visitors” metric could include repeat traffic, or the differences between what you see in Google Analytics could be attributed to logged in traffic not being counted as suggested above.

If you feel there are any issues with reporting in Google Analytics, feel free to check this with the Google Analytics product experts over at the official Help Center. From what I can see I don’t notice any issues with reporting, just a difference between Jetpack stats, which I would expect isn’t uncommon.

Let me know if you have any questions with the above.

Thank you. I reached out to the analytics community and the only recommendation I’ve received so far is to abandon the site kit and install analytics directly which really isn’t a solution. I can do it, but I’d rather identify the problem first.

What I really need to know is, first, is there a problem, and second, since everything appears to be reporting correctly from a technical perspective, how do I explain the discrepancy? I understand that both systems count differently, but that’s a pretty significant difference. Yesterday, including you, I had 10 visitors according to Jetpack. According to GA4, I had 2, which is a huge difference that I can’t explain. I’m also not using registration right now, so logged in state “shouldn’t” impact it.

If you can help me understand the discrepancy (and if it is or is not within a reasonable bounds), then I can feel better staying with my current config or moving to a new config.

This is part of one of the responses I received from the analytics community:

A lot of my clients face similar issues because of the Sitekit plugin. Now, they have switched to Google Tag Manager.

Is the site kit plugin unreliable?

Sorry to hear of the response you received from the Analytics community. Adding Google Analytics to your site, whether manually or through Site Kit, results in the same tracking snippet placed. It sounds like there may have been a misunderstanding if you were told otherwise.

What I really need to know is, first, is there a problem, and second, since everything appears to be reporting correctly from a technical perspective, how do I explain the discrepancy? I can only advise on any discrepancy between Site Kit and Google Analytics. Site Kit pulls the information from a users Google Analytics account, and in your case, what’s shown within the Site Kit dashboard matches what’s shown from analytics.google.com.

Regarding a discrepancy between what you’re seeing in JetPack analytics, to that what you’re seeing in Google Analytics, as mentioned above, there could be a number of reasons. JetPack may include logged in traffic for reporting, while Site Kit doesn’t by default, bot/search engine spider traffic could be included, and return visitors to your site could be counted each time – I can’t be sure as we don’t support JetPack Analytics. You may find useful resources such as this question on Quora that may assist you, or you can reach out to JetPack, asking how they determine the “Visitors” metric.

Let me know if you have any questions with the above. While I can’t assist with any factors on how JetPack determine their visitor traffic metrics, I can assist with any Site Kit related queries. Thank you.

I can confirm the issue @rttomlinso21 is having. With me it’s totally the same. There’s an almost flatline, starting from Aug 4.

The same issue is happening in GA. Even the Google algorithm flagged this as an unusual event, but didn’t offer a solution, unfortunately.

So I still don’t have an idea where this issue is coming from…

Also confirm same issue here. My other sites, identical setups are having no issues but this one site randomly flatlined same date.

@stoere-bink @hannahmwool Thanks for the input. Unfortunately we’re limited to Site Kit specific queries here in the plugin support forums. We can certainly look into both your cases individually if you wish, do note that we are limited to checks regarding a Site Kit placed snippet, it’s placed and functioning as expected, without modification. In order to do so, please open an individual support topic we can communicate with you from there. It’s also possible some consent mode configurations or consent management plugins may be impacting reporting.

Please include any details relevant to what you’re experiencing. This may include sharing your Site Health information and a mention of whether the data you see within Site Kit matches that which you see from analytics.google.com, in particular when clicking on the ”Source: Analytics” link within the Site Kit dashboard.

I’ll keep an eye out for your topics. Do no also that we don’t have access to a users Analytics account. Based on that, with regards to any queries for a drop in performance or visitor comparisons, the Analytics Help Center would be the best option.

Glad to know I’m not crazy! Thankfully my volume is so low, it won’t impact me terribly, but hope it does get resolved or we’re able to understand what happened!

Thanks @jamesosborne for your thoughts. I have no idea what happened and I can’t find any hints in GA. I’ll keep on looking, but it looks like my stats are dead… and even GA recognizes this as very unusual.

Here’s another view of my stats. I sincerely hope this is a temporary issue! ??
