After MonsterInsights forced all users to Gtag, my GA traffic dropped to almost entirely zero. I found that the CAOS setting was set to Universal, and I was able to get analytics data back by switching to Gtag-v4.

I noticed that on the same day I did this, my GA Goals/Events flatlined as well. I’m not sure what specifically is blocking the events from triggering. To my knowledge, GTM shouldn’t require an update because I’m not using a v4 property and the triggers/events should continue working through the change from Universal to Gtag, but I may be misunderstanding this.

I’ve disabled Ezoic to see if this is the cause, no change. I’ve cleared and disabled caches, no change. I’ve switched CAOS from Gtag-v4 to Gtag-deprecated, no change.

Anything else I should be checking here?

I think you need to choose the deprecated gtag.js option, which is v3.

I’ve had some issues with corrupted scripts and my stats also took a nose dive, but I see different things on different sites, so this could very well be from MI, not CAOS.

See what happens when you deactivate CAOS and just use the Google version directly.

I did use this option, as per the last paragraph in my post above.

I disabled CAOS, and it just killed ALL of my analytics. So, that’s probably not the way that’s supposed to work.

At this point, now I have ONE type of affiliate link that shows up in the events, but it’s not actually one that I’ve configured previously. So… very confused.

I’d report it to Monsterinsights. You need to be sure their code works first.

Gal makes a valid point. When CAOS is disabled, Monster insights will fall back to the external gtag.js. if tracking stops entirely then, something else (outside of CAOS) isn’t working right.

Turns out that after disabling CAOS and even clearing ALL caches everywhere, there’s some sort of weird behavior where the analytics reporting doesn’t cut over immediately and that wasn’t really an expected behavior.

After disabling CAOS and waiting a handful of minutes, MonsterInsights began working again. I also had to switch ThirstyAffiliates from GTM to Gtag.js method, and on top of that somehow the CAOS link tracking box was unchecked.

After confirming that events triggered without CAOS and caching, I turned back on CAOS, enabled link tracking, and events seem to be generating as expected.

Annoying process and way too many layers of mechanisms, but at least it’s working now. Thanks for the help!
