Hi everyone, I have set up a new GA4 property as part of the UA to GA4 migration. I have since installed the GSite Kit and followed the instructions of selecting the GA4 property and inserting the snippet code.

However, the g.tag hasn’t appeared anywhere on the webpage and GA4 says that data collection isn’t active. I set this up at the end of last year and have recently tried to uninstall and reinstall the site kit. As I understand, I should not have to do it manually. Can someone please help!

    Thank you!

    Hi there @antypantyhose,

From reviewing your site I don’t see any standard Site Kit placed. I can see a lot of optimizations performed, which may be impacting the placement or execution of any Site Kit placed files. To troubleshoot this further can you firstly temporarily disable your Breeze cache plugin and check for any Site Kit placed snippet, or use the tagassistant.google.com service to check for Google Analytics 4 (GA4) reporting?

If you find the same issue, please share your Site Health information and we can check this . You can use this form to share privately if preferred.?

Let me know if you have any questions with the above.

    Hi @jamesosborne

I have shared the information via the form but to help any other users experiencing a similar problem, there were 2 Site Kit snippets when the Breeze plugin was disabled. The first was a “Site Kit opt-out” snippet, and the other was “GoogleSiteKitAPIFetchData”. When using tagassistant, it returned nothing.

I have created the google tag with the measurement ID already, so assuming I have set everything up properly.

Thanks for the update @antypantyhose. You may well have set up everything correctly as you’ve stated, however, the optimizations performed on your website can impact the placement or behavior of Site Kit placed snippets, or indeed other plugin snippets. We added a mention of this on the plugin website. Some plugins can also add defer and other attributes to Site Kit placed snippets, resulting in them not functioning as expected.

From reviewing your site once more, and the Site Health information you kindly shared I can see the following:
    analytics_use_snippet: yes
    analytics_4_use_snippet: yes

As I don’t see this snippets present on your site, can you temporarily disable your Breeze plugin once more and let me know once that’s done? I’ll then check your site once more. I can then check for not only the opt out snippet you referred to, but also for the standard snippet placed, which is also inserted on a typical setup.

I also noticed that you’re using another couple of optimizations plugins, along with Cloudflare. We can perform some additional troubleshooting if I don’t see the snippets placed with Breeze temporarily deactivated. It’s very that what’s occurring is a multi plugin configurations issue.

    (@antypantyhose)

Hi @jamesosborne the Breeze plugin has been deactivated so hopefully you find what you are looking for. If the issue is a multi plugin configurations issue, please do let me know the best way to fix it. Thanks!

Thanks for the update @antypantyhose. From checking your site at present I still don’t see any Site Kit placed snippet. With that let’s perform some additional checks. To do so, follow the instructions below:

    1. Login to your live site from a Chrome browser incognito window.
    2. Install and activate the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin.
    3. Navigate to “Plugins > Health Check & Troubleshooting > Troubleshoot”.
    4. From the same screen click on the “Available Plugins” tab at the top right and then click on the “Enable” option next to “Site Kit by Google“.
    5. Visit your site once more, checking the source code for the Site Kit placed Analytics snippet. You can use this guide to be aware on what to look for.

Let me know how you get on with the above. If you do notice the snippet placed, this includes a possible multi party plugin conflict. As you’re using Cloudflare, Asset Cleanup and Autoptimize some caching or other optimization configurations may not be working as expected.

Hi James, it seems that the code is missing. The only snippet that is available is for the old UA (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1GmBu2-FVHvm60aZ0SBMzgFa9uzGKlToF/view?usp=sharing)

If if is the multi-plugin conflict, can you advise what can be done to fix it?

    (@jamesosborne)

Thanks for the update @antypantyhose. Based on your screenshot the snippet has been successfully placed via Site Kit while in troubleshooting mode. Note also that this may include both the UA and GA4 snippets, I can’t be sure as you didn’t expand the full content of the script (see here).

As the snippet is placed while in troubleshooting mode this includes a conflict. What you can do next is enable your other plugins one by one while in troubleshooting mode, following the steps above once more. You’ll need to check your sites source code after each plugin you enable, one at a time. At the point where you no longer see the standard Site Kit snippet placed, you’ll know which plugin you last enabled. Let me know if you need assistance with this.

    (@antypantyhose)

Hi @jamesosborne sorry for not expanding the full content of the script. Here is the link to the full content: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1-kGWGer3nUKaUsXzEXICUv8nq4xrNHL4/view?usp=sharing

It seems that the GA4 snippet is there but it only appears once. Does this mean it’s been placed properly? If so, I will follow the steps in troubleshooting mood as you have instructed and will let you know what i find.

Thanks for sharing this update @antypantyhose. I can indeed see the snippets are placed as expected, see this reference.

Based on this, it sounds seem like one or multiple configurations between your optimization plugins are impacting the snippet. Can you temporarily deactivate Breeze, Asset Cleanup and Autoptimize while I check your site once more?

    Thread Starter antypantyhose

    (@antypantyhose)

    Hi @jamesosborne

Well at least it’s positive we may have identified the issue! I’ve deactivated temporarily the 3 plugins for you. Please let me know if there is anything else I need to do in the meantime.

    (@jamesosborne)

Nice job @antypantyhose, I can now see the snippet not only placed successfully, but I can see Analytics hits recording.

Based on this, it’s a configuration of one of those 3 plugins, or a conflict between them which is impacting your sites Analytics recording and the snippet behavior. You can enable the three plugins one at a time if you wish, checking tagassistant.google.com after each activation, to ensure your Analytics visits are firing.

Let me know if you need any assistance with the above. We are limited to Site Kit support but I would be happy to check for possible configurations with any third party plugin if you can determine which one it may be.

    Thread Starter antypantyhose

    (@antypantyhose)

Hi @jamesosborne, thanks very much for the instructions!

So I have found that it is the Asset CleanUp: Page Speed Booster plugin that is causing the conflict and impacting the analytics recording. It failed to connect on the tag assistant after I activated this one.

Are you able to look into possible configuration to fix this issue? Thanks again for your help so far!

    Plugin Support James Osborne

    (@jamesosborne)

Nice troubleshooting @antypantyhose! And I did take a look at Asset Cleanup. Rather than run through all configurations I noticed a reset settings option, see below:

Can you give that a try? I’d be happy to check your site once more after you do so. You can then enable whatever settings you like within the plugin.

    Thread Starter antypantyhose

    (@antypantyhose)

Thanks for this @jamesosborne. For the resetting of Asset clean up, I didn’t set up this plugin so I’m not sure how it works or what i need to do after I reset it. So I’m a bit worried to do so in case it breaks my site…

    Plugin Support James Osborne

    (@jamesosborne)

@antypantyhose Resetting the plugin settings shouldn’t break your site, in particular as you’ve already tested deactivating the plugin without issues. You can perform a backup of your site if you’re concerned before resetting the plugin settings.
