Functions of tk_xx cookies

  • Hi!

    Still struggling to get GDPR compliant and need help identifying the purpose and content of some cookies.
    The cookie policy of Automattic does mention tk_qc and tk_ai briefly: “Gathers information for our own, first party analytics tool about how our services are used. A collection of internal metrics for user activity, used to improve user experience.” This tells me very little though…what information is gathered here and what analytics are produced based on it?

    There are also 4 more cookies: tk_lr, tk_or, tk_r3d and tk_tc that are deployed every time my site is used, but there’s nowhere on the internet where I could find anything about them. Once again: what information to they collect? And what is it used for?

    Can you please help sort these 6 cookies out?

    WordPress introduced tools to assist with GDPR compatibility in 4.9.6, but GDPR compatibility for specific plugins and themes is up to their developers. Also, you, as the site owner/operator, are the one responsible for ensuring compliance the GDPR and any local variations that may be introduced.

    Click SETTINGS->Privacy to access the current GDPR tools.

    I’m sorry but I’m getting the feeling that you haven’t even read post/question…are you trying to tell me that these cookies are not by wordpress itself but by some themre or plugin? I know for sure that at least two of these ARE by wordpress itself.

    I have been through all you mentioned above and used the tools etc., my problem here is not how to get compliant. My problem is that wordpress which I built my website on deploys cookies that I have to declare to my visitors and provides zero info about what these are and do.

    Everything you mentioned in your answer does absolutely nothing to change that. Helping me write a privacy policy doesn’t solve this issue. And unfortunately not everyone building a website with wordpress is a developer. I’m not.

    So I’m asking one more time: Can someone who knows code and knows or can figure out the function of these cookies please help me?

    tk cookes are not set by WordPress core.

    Please attempt to disable all plugins, and use one of the default (Twenty*) themes. If the problem goes away, enable them one by one to identify the source of your troubles.

    Thanks for the answer.
    My homepage https://www.cottoncandy.no triggers some of these, going to the individual product pages (e.g. https://www.cottoncandy.no/produkt/stretch-ensfarget-interlock-mork-gra/) you get the rest.

    Interesting you say wordpress core doesn’t set tk cookies, then it must be another Automattic component since they do mention tk_ai and tk_qs in their cookie policy (https://automattic.com/cookies/)

    I was hoping not to have the site down as no site=no business, and thought someone out there has the answer ?? but will do if I absolutely must.

    Are you using Jetpack? That’s an Automattic product.

    I am, they’re responsible for the tk_ai and tk_qs, but don’t admit to the rest…

    I have the same issue on all the websites that use Jetpack. There are a bunch of tk_* cookies set on them and they are extremely poorly documented what they contain and do.

    In the Cookies page of Automattic you will find:
    “tk_ni / tk_ai / tk_qs Gathers information for our own, first party analytics tool about how our services are used. A collection of internal metrics for user activity, used to improve user experience.”

    Well… all that could mean anything.

    There is an option to turn general analytics off in Jetpack, described here and here.

    However i do not know if that way you can get rid of all these cookies as i did not try it yet.
