Function to remove related posts from content stopped working

I have been using the function found on this page – https://jetpack.com/support/related-posts/customize-related-posts/#delete – to remove the related posts from the bottom of the_content, which has worked as expected until very recently. Not sure what’s changed, but they now appear on all posts. Is there a modification to that function that would make it work again?
