I went back to add a old photo to a WordPress post and it did not have blocks.

Said add media and it put the photo in there. Saved it and viewed it and can click on the photo to make it full size.

Then I converted it to blocks it still worked.

But when I make a new post with blocks and add a photo it don’t do the HTML tags right so you can click it on to make it full size.

Is there some setting I have to do for this?

It’s junk they took it out after adding blocks!

After you insert an image block and add an image, ensure the image block is still selected and active. In the right hand properties, be sure the block tab is active. Under “Link Settings” is an option to link to the media file, which will be the image as it was uploaded.

Not much was taken out when WP switched to the block editor. Moved around, yes. It’s certainly frustrating at times and takes some getting used to. You ought to give it a chance, but if after a while you still hate it you can use the Classic Editor plugin to go back to the old style editor.

I don’t get how you do this. I can pick Image Size in the right side. But I don’t want it full size when reading the text just when click it on.

Is there a video showing this or can you make one to show how?

I made this vid that goes through the process described earlier:

Unfortunately, the dropdown field interactions do not record. When a dropdown field magically changes to my selection, imagine it happened really fast while you blinked ??

Thank you that video was good. But on the right side I don’t have any image links show up. I don’t know why. What theme are you using that my be it not sure?

It’s a child theme of twentysixteen. No additional code, it just has some custom templates. Any of the twenty* themes could be swapped in to see if it’s your theme or not. Also deactivate all plugins to bring your site to the default state. Flush your browser cache for good measure. The image metabox should then appear. If it does, restore your normal theme and plugins, one at a time, checking for the metabox after each activation. When it disappears again, the last activated module is the cause.

If no metabox appears even in the default state, try updating to WP 5.3.

I deactivate all my plugins and tested a image and I still don’t have it on the right side. It looks the same.

I am using Theme “Twenty Sixteen” I guess that is the same as you.

Just don’t get why it don’t show up on mine. I should test load a new WordPress and see if it works then.

Please note that in the WP 5.3 block editor the link settings has been moved to the block toolbar icons. Click the “chain” icon above the image block, then “pencil” icon.

I just found this out yes click on the photo in edit and there is a “Chain” icon on top, click that one and just click link to “Media File” I guess this is better then auto having it put in. Works good. Happy found out who to do it.

    Thank you.

You’re welcome. I guess I should take that vid down since it’s no longer valid.
