Full size image upside down

    I’ve uploaded an image to my media library and added it to a post as a medium size. When I view the post, all is fine. But if I click on the image to view full size, the image is presented upside down (there is text on the image at the top which on the full size image is at the bottom upside down).

    Here’s the post and the image is the first one on the page (pink flowers):

    It only happens with the first image on the post. The second image (fish) is fine.

    I’ve used FTP to download the image from the uploads directory back to my PC and it is the right way up. I can see that in the page that displays the full size image, there is some clever CSS being added with a zoom in button. Is this a new feature of 4.0.1?

  • Just guessing here, but I have heard some cameras/phones and such save images in the normal up-side state of photography, then add some code of some kind for displaying them rightside-up. So, I would suspect the problem is at the actual image and that WordPress is (only) reading its rightside-up code (only) part of the time.

    Thanks @leejosepho for the suggestion. I’ll give some thought the best way to remove the camera info and see if that helps.

    @leejosepho you are correct.

    When I opened the image in GIMP2, GIMP2 alerted me that the EXIF info indicated that the image was rotated and offered to rotate the image for me or not. I chose Rotate and then rotated the image and exported it to a new jpg file. This seems to have removed the EXIF info so that when I open the new file in GIMP2 it does not alert me and is correctly oriented. Now I can upload the new file and replace it on the page.

    Glad you got it sorted out…and now would you mind showing my daughter how to set her phone to also re-size her photos before sending them?! Getting them to come through rightside-up was great, but they still fill the living from wall. ??
