I get the following error message when I install the plugin on a Bitnami install of WordPress 4.8.1 on Google Compute Engine.

“To perform the requested action, WordPress needs to access your web server. Please enter your FTP credentials to proceed. If you do not remember your credentials, you should contact your web host.”

Seems like I need to change some permissions to allow the plugin to write some files. Could you please point me to the solution? Thanks.

  • Can you check whether you can see the below-mentioned folder on your WordPress site root folder? If not, create the folders.
    wp-content/uploads/tCapsule/backups
Or set proper permissions for your PHP instance to create a folder on the above location.

    Thanks, that worked!

Perfect! Thank you so much for the confirmation. Have a good one ??

Actually, after creating the folder manually, the plugin doesn’t throw an error on activation, but backups are still not happening. Backups are stuck at 0%.

Can you please elaborate on the PHP instance option above? Does it mean I have to change linux read/write permissions?

    Thanks.

I am having the same problem. It has been half day and the progress is still in “waiting” status.

I opened a ticket already and solved the issue by myself before staff replied to me. I have 4 blogs and I have to chown the root of 3 of them to www-data. The other 1 working fine with just only tCapsule folder chowned.
