FTP Security Risks

    My Updraftplus installation has recently started failing where once it worked. I am getting errors relating to functions such as ftp_connect not working. Contacting my hosting company they will enable this but say that enabling this and the other functions are a security risk unless used properly and want specific instruction from me before they do it.
    So, given that Updraftplus was working for me previously is this change because of an update in the plugin or has my hosting company changed a configuration without notice? And is it safe?

    Hi,

    We will not ask our users to enable the function on their server if it is not safe.
