    Hi!

I tried to make a manual backup but it didn’t work. I went to the settings tab to test the FTP and I get this error:

“FTP settings test result: Failure: we did not successfully log in with those credentials.

    Messages:

    • PHP event: code E_WARNING: ftp_login(): SSL/TLS required on the control channel (line 46, wp-content/plugins/updraftplus/includes/ftp.class.php)”

I recently updated the PHP version for my website to PHP 8.2. Could that be the cause? Or is this a different issue? How can I fix it?

I have not changed the FTP login credentials or the backup directory and they work fine when I log in in FileZilla.

    Hello,

The error message indicates that the FTP server you are connecting to requires encryption. The free version of UpdraftPlus only supports non-encrypted FTP.

But then why did it work before?

    Hello,

It could be be that the FTP server has been updated to enforce SSL / TLS for all connections.

My server has had SSL connections for a while, it’s not new. I solved it by installing a different plugin.

Some hosters moved from FTP/SFTP to ‘SFTP only’ for safety/ security reasons. My hoster did that as well.

Do you mean you stopped using UpdraftPlus?

    Yes, because it stopped working.

You’re not with GoDaddy by chance are you? Because our FTP backups have failed too but with a different error. Ours seems to be more firewall related. I’m just about to restore an earlier backup of the website from 20th July when backups were working to isolate UpdraftPlus or GoDaddy.

No, I use an EU webhost.
