  • How are you uploading the wordpress files to GoDaddy? Are you using the file manager in your GoDaddy account or an FTP client like Filezilla? Do you see a list of files in your GoDaddy filemanager or FTP?

It may be possible that you are simply aiming your domain to the host incorrectly. First thing to do is create a file called index.htm and fill it with:

    <html><body>Hello World. Test Worked!</body></html>

Save and Upload this to your site then visit the site. If you do not see the text then it means you are aiming wrong and placing the files in the wrong host location.

You can also read how to install WordPress at this document.

If you know how your host has been setup, make sure the basic requirements are met by going here.

    All the best. Good luck.

Bubblecap, Read the post. They’re hardly able to make a test file and get it to their server, they’ve read the docs, and GoDaddy is meets the wordpress requirements. They *are* having trouble with FTP and getting the wordpress files to their host.

I was using the FTP client in Go Daddy, have now downloaded Filezilla, ok so i presume i enter my https://ftp.kaffeineaddict.com for the host then username and password…

then select the wordpress folder and upload?

Thank you for reply …i really appreciate it

    We can get it working….

Filezilla works better, in my experience. Enter your FTP info in Filezilla (GoDaddy should have sent that in an email).

After you connect, look in your directory at kaffeineaddict.com. Are there wordpress files there already from a previous attempt? If there are, there’s no need to upload them again, and you can edit your wp-config.php file.

If not, then unzip the wordpress folder on your PC by doubleclicking on it.

What you want to do is open the wordpress folder and upload all the files in the folder, not the wordpress folder itself, as you don’t want kaffeineaddict.com/wordpress/, your want kaffeineaddict.com Does that make sense?

there is no directory named kaffeineaddict all i have in there is

    db dackups
    stats
googled ( then loads of letter and numbers
    welcome

    but no kaffeineaddict.com

How do i make this file?

ok on my go daddy server i have just opened new dir called kaffeineaddict.com

so now if i goto filezilla i upload the contents of wordpress inc the folders admin / content / includes plus all the other files…right?

You’re in the right place at GoDaddy if you see dbbackups, stats, welcome, etc.

Delete the directory you made called kaffeineaddict.com; you don’t need it and it will cause problems. Also delete the welcome file.

Upload the contents of the wordpress folder – the files, the admin, content, folders, etc – to the main window at GoDaddy that has the stats, dbbackups, etc.

    ok doing that now

    ok

now when i log on to

    https://www.kaffeineaddict.com/wp-admin/install.php

    i get a 500 internal server error

    WordPress hates me

No; it’s GoDaddy free hosting, which is not good, as WordPress doesn’t play well with their free hosting. And it’s also Windows hosting, which is also problematic. You’ll be much happier and have fewer problems with cheap GoDaddy Linux hosting for a few bucks a month. WordPress is easy to set up, but unfortunatly, some hosting systems don’t play well.

    ooh ok…

ill check it out and upgrade ….

Ok ive upgraded…do i need to redo everything?

It will take a few hours for GoDaddy to switch your account to linux and then you can try the install again. If you didn’t switch to linux, you really should: Switching Your Hosting Account Operating System – GoDaddy Help Center.

ok, ill re check it in a while, i have gone to linux

Fingers crossed, thank you so much and ill let you know how i get on
