• I have ready through many posts on this issue and still can’t get my problem solved. When trying to install new plugins or even up date WP version, I am required to enter the FTP credentials. When I enter the credentials, I get this message, “There was an error connecting to the server, Please verify the settings are correct.”

    We are hosted through GoDaddy

    Things I’ve done:
deleted and renamed FTP users per GoDaddy’s suggestion
changing the host name to the IP address, “domain.org”, “ftp.domain’org”, “localhost”

    My Complications:
I know absolutely nothing about code or website jargon. The website and GoDaddy accounts were set up by someone else who is no longer with our organization. We are a small non-profit and can’t afford to pay for website services, so I need to figure out enough of the basics to finish building and manage the site.

I really appreciate any baby-step help someone might be able to provide.

  • If there is an FTP error that is through your hosting site. Typically, FTP and WordPress do not use the same username and password. You would need to login into your GoDaddy account to see what the credentials are set for on that particular website. You simply upload WordPress into your FTP in order for WordPress to be active on your website. WordPress does not actually do anything physically with your FTP without you initiating it.

I am using the FTP credentials from my GoDaddy hosting site. WordPress has been uploaded to GoDaddy. I have spoken with several technical folks at GoDaddy on a number of occasions and none have been very helpful in fixing this problem. Mostly they just say “you shouldn’t be asked for your FTP credentials.” Not very helpful, since I am being asked for them and can’t figure out how to fix it.

I read about a number of different options in the forums and online, but all contained a host of webbie jargon that I am completely unable to decipher. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. ??
