• Hi, I’ve checked around, but can’t seem to find an answer.

I have never worked with blogging software on my domain so I gave it a shot. I’ve had my site for around 6 years. It’s established and I thought a blog would add some interest. I followed the directions only to find, apparently, the instructions were for using the blog for your main site, not as a feature.

I tried moving everything to a specific directory, but it doesn’t work now. It was fine before the move. I tried reconfiguring my index.php file, but that didn’t work. Every site I’ve found on subdirectories discusses leaving bits of the files in the root directory, as you would if the blog were your actual web site. They also list your blog url should be something like https://sample.com, I already have a main page. The URL with the directory is: https://laurawrites.net/wordpress/

Is there any hope? Should I just delete it all? The specific error message I receive is:

    ——————————————————————–
Warning: main(./wordpress/wp-blog-header.php) [function.main]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /hsphere/local/home2/laurawri/laurawrites.net/wordpress/index.php on line 17

Warning: main(./wordpress/wp-blog-header.php) [function.main]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /hsphere/local/home2/laurawri/laurawrites.net/wordpress/index.php on line 17

Fatal error: main() [function.require]: Failed opening required ‘./wordpress/wp-blog-header.php’ (include_path=’.:/usr/local/lib/php’) in /hsphere/local/home2/laurawri/laurawrites.net/wordpress/index.php on line 17
    ————————————————————————

Any help will be most appreciated.

  • Every site I’ve found on subdirectories discusses leaving bits of the files in the root directory,

You either didn’t read it correctly or those sites were lying…

You need to have ALL the WP files and folders in your subdir.

    Thank you, Moshu.

I moved every related file I could find in my root directory to the appropriate subdirectory.

    Now when I type: https://www.laurawrites.net/wordpress/index.php
    or: https://www.laurawrites.net/wordpress/

I still get the same error message I listed before. Thanks again.

Also, since I uploaded wordpress, I can’t access my AwStats service. I don’t know why that would be affected, but it worked fine until I uploaded the WordPress folders. Would that have anything to do with the error messages listed above?

    Thanks again!

Seemingly, you not only moved the files but you also messed with the code in them.
Get a fresh, unaltered copy of the WP’s root index file – or undo your modifications.

    Wow!

I pulled up the page, but it doesn’t look connected to the stylesheet. Also, none of the links work. But, it’s amazing the page came up.

    Thanks again.

OK, you messed not only with the files but the database, too.
(Why people cannot follow straightforward instructions?)

Can you login? If yes, go to Settings > General and make sure you have the two URL values pointing exactly where your WP is:
    https://www.laurawrites.net/wordpress

The straightforward instructions got me here.

I can’t log on to WordPress at all. I can’t do anything, but pull up the half index page.

Is this not the support area for WordPress? I thought this was where we were supposed to direct our questions. If not, I apologize if you think I’m wasting your time.

The instructions didn’t get you here – your misreading of them did.
