front page gallery block with Lightbox?

Hi there.

Here’s my problem so far: I have my website wp set up and ready to go, with the H20 theme (modified and based on Hemingway).

I like having one news post per page, but the space on the right, I’d like to dedicate to a lightbox gallery. How can I make a permanent gallery page that sits in the same spot, regardless if the news post on the left changes? I know how to use my lightbox plugin etc, I’d just like some help, maybe with a new page template or css? I’m pretty capable with html/css and can edit the index page, I just don’t know how this will all work in WP.

I see the gallery as being maybe a ‘page’ that I can update through wordpress myself anyway.
