“Front page displays: Your latest posts”

That doesn’t work for my HSHMarketTrends blog. The blog has several categories. The main category (Market Trends) gets one post per week — for marketing reasons, I schedule it for Monday morning. The Statistical Release category, however, gets its weekly post on Friday evening.

Due to this new feature, then, the Statistical Release will now be the ‘front page’ all weekend. I don’t actually want that; I prefer it to be the way I had it set up — with the Market Trends as the ‘home’ page.

Any chance that 2.8.2 will let me reset that to my choice of category?

I don’t believe that is anything new. I think the choices there have always been either “your latest posts” or “a static page”. I don’t remember there ever being an option to display a specific category in that menu …but my wife swears up and down I have brain damage, so… perhaps someone else will verify my thoughts on that. Could you have a plugin that has ceased to function correctly after an upgrade?
