Front page displays most recent posts vertically

My front page has been set to show my most recent posts but they show vertically. Is there a way to show the 3 most recent posts only and show them horizontally?
I have tried different plugins like mooberry and content views but they haven’t done the job, I am totally new to all this so may be doing something wrong with them though.

OK. What you need to do to get the horizontal blog layout on the home page is:
- Create a new page and select “Frontpage” as the template type.
- Go to Appearance –> Customize –> Static Front Page select the “A static page” radio button. Select the page you just created as the home page.
Your most recent three posts will show up horizontally with their featured images, just like in the theme thumbnail.
