    Hi!
I have transferd my blog from wordpress.com to one.com.
At least, the transfer is ok.
However, I struggle to import my blogfiles, comments etc to my selfhosted blog.
Contacting one.com I get so many different answers, I get confused.
The last advice was to download the content, and unpack the zip file.
Next, I ought to upload the content to FTP, and at last change the information in wp-config/php with the correct infromation from PHP & MySQL.
Being a newbie on this selfhosting-thing, I get really confused!
Can somebody give me a hand?
My old homepage (www.maryathome.wordpress com, however I have paid for my own domain name for a while at https://www.maryathomewriting.com).
    My self hosted adress: https://www.maryathomewriting.com.

    Hope for a helpful soul!
    Maria

Until now, I have understood much of what both of you have been saying, but now I really fall out. One.com refers me to wordpress, so I have not got sufficient help, unfortunately. I have been stuck in the same place since before Christmas.
You recomend me to use iPage, but at the same time say I can not use iPage?
Sorry to be a little difficult ??

Oh sorry sorry, my total mistake!! I got it in my head that you were on iPage. Obviously, need more coffee :)!

So yeah, go to your host. BTW, if they are clueless about WP, you may want to consider changing hosts – I don’t know anything about them, but there are several hosts that offer very good support for WP.

Yes, and depending upon any particular individual’s personality, experience, current workload and/or whatever else, responses from Tech Support can vary from one keyboard or headset to the next and from one host to another. Overall, hosts tend to be inclined to say their servers are working properly and anything else is beyond their responsibility. However, troubleshooting the matter of your not being able to complete an upload in order to install a plugin or import content needs to begin there at the servers and not with WordPress…and they have error logs that can tell them exactly what is going on. So, give them a call or send an e-mail and ask for someone there to please show you it actually is possible for their servers to do what you need before you might waste any more time trying to fix something that is quite possibly not even wrong with WordPress:

    Yep, good advice, @leejosepho :)!

@maryathome – I’ve found that sometimes you do need to be persistent and not take their first response if it’s not helpful. Of course, some issues ARE WordPress, and those we can try to help with. But file permissions is something that has to be set correctly on the server or many things won’t work, not just this import.

Thank you both for your patience!
Finally, the blog is imported, and I can start playing around to find out how my home should look like ??

Oh gosh, GREAT NEWS!! Now you get to start on the fun part :)! Happy New Year!

Before you go very far there, please get some solid security in place. A new WordPress installation is like a new, ground-level residence with none of the windows or doors securely battened, and it is just a matter of time before all the ‘bots and such begin creeping in. BulletProof Security has been my own solution for that for over two years now, and there is no better plugin for someone who would like to just make a few clicks and move on.
