• Hi!
I am used to a bit of blogging and site on wordpress.com (not using the wp connected to a domain) but my boss requested me to redo his website and I haven’t got his password for the domain yet.

I wanted to know if I could design his website on wordpress.com and then transfer this website to his existing company domain?

    Thanks a lot ??

  • You have to remember that which ever theme you use might not be available for www.remarpro.com. you also won’t have much of access to any theme modification on WordPress.com as you would do on www.remarpro.com.

That said, yes you can design it but won’t be easy move all of it over. Content yes, easy to move with images.

    Hope that helps.

It’s best to just to start with hosting and a theme for .org and go from there. The transfer process is much easier; easiest if you simply turn over the hosting account to your boss or his business. See Recommended WordPress Web Hosting

But, for .com, most free themes on .com are available via svn, but you will need to put the files together in a theme for .org, and some functions will be missing. See https://themes.svn.www.remarpro.com Premium themes on .com are mostly available from those vendors for .org sites.

Okay, thanks for the answers. It’s just that my boss is taking time to find the password and domain information he already has and I don’t want to be block by this. As well as I would like to work on the website troubleshoot it and then transfer.

What would be best, start with? If I use www.remarpro.com I need a domain of my own right? (I don’t have any for the moment just using the wordpress.com for personal blogging).
If I use wordpress.com from what I understood it is limited in terms of themes, afterwards the website will be rather simple and try to have something slick.

What he has for the moment is a horrible website that has been done with Word and save as Web page. ^^

And thanks again for the answers, I’m going through the tutorials you sent me! ??

1.) Yes, you will need a domain name since from my understanding you are using the free wordpress.com subdomain type of thing. You can register one for cheap at GoDaddy.com or NameCheap.com. Doesn’t your boss have access to the domain name his website is currently on? if so, you could do the following a) find a hosting provider for www.remarpro.com ( ), b) install and setup www.remarpro.com on that hosting then c) change the DNS on the domain your boss has to the hosting provider you just setup www.remarpro.com on. That said, usually hosting providers give you a control panel (cPanel, Plesk, etc) to control your site, add emails, etc.. well on cPanel and Plesk, you get URLs to preview your work, that can work also for you with building the WordPress site for your Boss before you switch the domain name… so something like this with cPanel would be your temporary url that you can work on your site; https://ipaddress/~username … that’s something your hosting provider will give you as temporary.

2.) Yes on WordPress.com you can use a large set of themes they offer but you won’t be able to add themes. I’ve done a lot of migrations from WordPress.com to www.remarpro.com in my career and usually, theres a few things that were on WordPress.com that I had to some how replicate on www.remarpro.com (ie: plugins weren’t available or theme wasn’t really exactly the same as it was on WordPress.com with same options, etc..)

Hope the above makes sense and Good luck ??

He should have accessed but I have been asking him for it and he is not finding the time to check for it.

Thank you for the answers, it has been very helpful ??
