From Website to WP

  • Do i have to learn PHP to convert my website to WP? I’m reading Steping Into Themes and i understand the basics so far but the actual coding i have not looked at yet.

    Is there a way to turn comments off by default. I never want comments on my blog.

  • You do not have to learn PHP to use wordpress.
    You can turn off the comments from administration panel.

    I know i can turn off comments on EACH INDIVIDUAL post, but i want to know if i can make this automatic. Since i don’t wnat comments, i shouldn’t have to remember to turn it off each time i post something. I’ve not read anything on this so far in the documents.

    Sorry, i wasn’t clear. I want to know if i’m in the right place to transfer my html pages and CSS pages into WP. I’m doing a lot of reading, some if it is repeated information. And you can’t tell what links you’ve already visited until you start hearing similar stuff again. So I would like to know if i’m in the right place so i can start cutting and pasting or whatever i need to do to get my website up and running with WP.

    Can you provide me with some links or the titles of some articles? Thanks.

    I looked at the FAQs again and still did not find any information on this. So finally i typed in “existing website” and found a few links though the article is under development.

    I found these links.

    It looks to me that this is going to be a long and difficult process.

    No, you don’t have to know PHP to convert to WP.

    However, without sounding intrusive, what are you trying to do? I’ve been working with Linux, PHP, CSS, HTML, SQL for several years and I’m using WordPress. The only reason I would switch to WP is to have total control over the layout of my site…which means I would have to know CSS.
