• Hi,

I have just installed the free plug-in to test it (before buying the premium one).
But when I activate it, each multi pages pdf becomes a one blank page pdf.

A customer who buys an digital product on the site, receives 4 multi-pages pdfs (classic size). Each should be watermarked. But when waterwoo is activated, each pdf becomes a single blank page without watermark. I uninstalled the plug-in and the pdfs are now okay (but without watermark of course).

    WP version is 5.7.1
    Woocommerce version is 5.1
    PHP version is 7.3.28`

Have you ever noticed it? Thanks a lot

    Hi Thomas (@thomjom)

Have to say this is an unusual situation without encryption enabled (a premium feature) so I’ll be curious to learn more about what your settings are and what PDF you are trying to mark that doesn’t work. Is it possible the PDF you are trying to mark is already encrypted/passworded? What version PDF is it and what application was used to create it? Have you tried with any other PDF files to see what the difference might be? Also, have you looked through your error logs? Can you turn on logging and see what those say? Thank you.

    Hi.
Thank you for your reply. You’re right. The PDF are passworded to avoid modifications. The PDF, version 1.7, are created on Adobe Illustrator. Is it possible to watermark a passworded PDF? Thank you.

    @thomjom,

The short answer is no. The readily-available PDF parsers — and the ones used in most Wordprss plugins — cannot open PDFs, read them, then spit them back out if they’re passworded. That’s a basic requirement of this plugin – that the PDFs be unlocked and for most purposes, unadulterated.

    Hi Caroline,
Ohh too bad. I really thought your plugin would be the solution to my need. Thank you so much for your help and your time. Regards.

@thomjom No it wouldn’t be possible with WaterWoo PDF or its similar competitors; however, if you were using a stamper like WooStamper and have a developer to write a little extra code tying into SetaPDF, this would be possible.

It needs a “naked PDF,” but you could just let the WaterWoo PDF Premium watermarker do the passwording for you, though.

    Hi Caroline,

Hope you don’t mind if I join this thread.

I’m having the exact same issue (trying to watermark a protected pdf). I’m selling eBooks, so it is very important that several functions be disabled (printing and the ability to copy text from the pdf).
Can Waterwoo Premium watermark a “naked pdf” and then password it so that the pdf has printing and text-copying disabled?

    Thanks
    Jason

    Hiya, @leapinghorseman

Yes, the general idea is that TCPDI/TCPDF cannot read a PDF if it’s passworded/encrypted. So it needs a “naked” (open) PDF to start with. And then you can password and add protections, write on it, etc. Take a look at the premium version; it offers a lot more possibilities for PDF manipulation, including copy/print protections. Always keep in mind, there will still be limits however, as far as what your server can handle with manipulation + PDF size + server load. Thanks for asking!
