From bad to worse: Please help with blank page

  • Hi everyone,

    This afternoon has been just awful. First, my theme started to act up where the formatting was off, then some of the pages were blank, but at least I could see some of the pages. NOW, I can’t see anything. I get just a white blank page. I tried switching to Twentyelven and Twentyten – but still just a white. Whereas before, I at least could switch to Twentyten and then my pages would appear.

    I’m really frustrated because I can see all my pages in WordPress itself, including the content. But, even when I try to publish, or update, the page in the browser is just blank.

    Steps I have taken:

    Uninstalled main theme, and reinstalled it – tried reactivating it – but nothing.
    Cleared my entire cache/ browsing history –
    Re-uploaded the original TinyMCE folder – nothing

    I’m so exhausted. This was working just fine this morning, and now I don’t know what to do. Should I reinstall WordPress?

    p.s. I did do a search for blank page WordPress, but it turns up a lot of old results and nothing really conclusive for 3.2.1

    pps. Yes, my page is set to public, not private.

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    Hi esmi,

    Yes I tried that the first time, before I was getting a totally white page, but it didn’t help. I only have on plugin running, so it was easy to deactivate and test it. I spent like two hours reading about the “white blank page” from various forms, so I tried a lot of stuff – got frustrated and posted here.

    Have you tried checking your server’s error logs.

    Just one more update,

    It’s not just my index.php that I cannot see, but the actual permalinks to are blank white pages.

    When I look at the source I see:
    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC “-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN”>
    <HTML><HEAD>
    <META content=”text/html; charset=windows-1252″ http-equiv=Content-Type></HEAD>
    <BODY></BODY></HTML>

    BUT, in WordPress my pages are there. It’s just that nothing is being published (even though it reports as published, or “updated.”)
