Hello. I’ve set up my website on a shared hosting at SiteGround, which is a decent host and I’m happy with them. However, I see that once people start getting more traffic, they often change their hosting to WPEngine, Kinsta or a similar high-end managed WP hosting.

I wonder, was it a mistake to start on a shared hosting? Would it be better to set up a website on a dedicated host right from the start? If I migrate the site, is the migrated copy just as good as if I’d do a fresh install of WordPress and build it up?

    I’d appreciate your thoughts. Thanks.

Having too much traffic is a good problem to have. As it grows, you can migrate to more powerful plans at your current host or to managed hosting or a VPS. Migration preserves your site as you go from host to host and it’s a lot easier than rebuilding your site from scratch.
